Since the original book was written, however, there have been many changes in our understanding of dementia. The editor of this new edition, Dawn Brooker was mentored by Tom Kitwood. Webdom was pioneered by Tom Kitwood and his colleague Kathleen Bredin in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The tagline for the movement was “The Person Comes First.” They argued that for too long we had been defeated by a sense that because dementia was a progressive brain disease, nothing could be done to help people live well with it.
