The hexosamine biosynthesis pathway hbp
WebThe hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP) branches from glycolysis and forms UDP-GlcNAc, the moiety for O -linked β-GlcNAc ( O -GlcNAc) post-translational modifications. An inability to directly measure HBP flux has hindered our understanding of the factors regulating protein O -GlcNAcylation. WebHowever, a neglected but very important branch of glucose metabolism is the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP). The HBP is a branch of the glucose metabolic pathway that consumes approximately 2–5% of the total glucose, generating UDP-GlcNAc as the end-product. UDP-GlcNAc is the donor substrate used in multiple glycosylation reactions.
