Webb30 okt. 2024 · The differential is located between the rear wheels and is connected to the transmission by a shaft for the rear-wheel-drive automobiles. Four-wheel drive (4WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles add a center transfer case or different to help distribute power to both the front and rear wheels. Factors affecting the amount of backlash required in a gear train include errors in profile, pitch, tooth thickness, helix angle and center distance, and run-out. The greater the accuracy the smaller the backlash needed. Backlash is most commonly created by cutting the teeth deeper into the gears than the ideal depth. Another way of introducing backlash is by increasing the center distances between the gears.
WebbSet the differential back into place, complete with its carrier bearings and races. Reinstall the caps and their bolts back where you got them, and torque the cap bolts to 70 to 85 ft-lbs. Check the backlash using this dial indicator. Hold the pinion in place and rock the ring gear back and forth and read the measurement. WebbFor a 20° pressure angle the distance equals 0.73 times the amount of backlash desired. [3] As a rule of thumb the average backlash is defined as 0.04 divided by the diametral pitch; the minimum being 0.03 divided by the diametral pitch and the maximum 0.05 divided by the diametral pitch. [3] In a gear train, backlash is cumulative. Webb23 aug. 2024 · If the driveshaft has a lot of rotational play, that also isn't ideal, however that is only resolved with resetting preload and backlash on the diff out of the car.
