Its black and white striped body is covered with quills, which it will raise when agitated. The spines detach and remain in the body of an inquisitive predator. WebbThe Nimba Otter Shrew was not discovered until 1951 at Ziéla, near Mount Nimba, Guinea (Heim de Balsac 1954). Most of the known records of M. lamottei cluster around Mount Nimba, with Sérédou in Guinea to the west and the Putu Mountains in east-central Liberia forming outliers to the main distribution (Figure 1).
