I believe the oil pressure relief valve in the block of a 406/427 is the same part as the relief valve in a factory Ford oil pump, except the block valve is a sawed-off version of the pump valve. I believe a pump spring is used in the block, too, but I forget the factory FE pump it was taken from - probably an 390HP or something. As for the oil galley holes, some may be tapped, some may be press-fit, but it varies depending on the engine and year. Often the press-fit holes get tapped by a rebuilder, so it's tough to know which is which.

The rear hole that is vertical at the center of the block has the same hole, but it's set deep inside another that's about 1/2" in diameter. I was wondering if the bigger hole is what I'm supposed to plug.

Other locations on some engines (but don't think they are on the FE) is the top back rail just behind the intake manifold mounting rail. Pretty sure that's where the 335-series has them.
