Brightness temperature conversion
WebLuminance Converter. Luminance is a measure of the power emitted by a light source in a given direction per unit area per unit solid angle. In other words, luminance is the amount of light that passes through or is emitted from a particular area within a given solid angle. The SI unit for luminance is candela per square meter (cd/m²). WebLandsat Level-1 data can be rescaled to the top of atmosphere (TOA) reflectance and/or radiance using radiometric rescaling coefficients provided in the metadata file (MTL.txt) that is delivered with the Landsat Level-1 product. The MTL file also contains the thermal constants needed to convert thermal band data to TOA brightness temperature (BT).

WebFig. 38 shows between 800 and 1000 cm − 1 the brightness temperature of the volcanic ash spectrum decreases with increasing wavenumber. As with dust, this is caused by the increase in absorption (hence decrease in transmission) of ash from 800 to 1000 cm − 1. Between 1080 and 1120 cm − 1 the opposite occurs.
